Connaught wasn’t exactly completely on top of things either however, and Stirling along with his team-mates ended up driving their A-Types on the road from Milan to Monza after dark in a last-moment scramble to get to the event on time! Moss achieved a personal target of outqualifying Mike Hawthorn’s Cooper-Bristol, placing ninth on the grid. In the race itself, Moss was forced to retire after 60 tours of the 80 lap encounter due to suspension problems.
