MCG Ford Lotus Cortina Mk.I 1963 - White/Green 1:18 model car Product Information
MCG 1:18 diecast model of the 1963 Ford Lotus Cortina Mk.I in white/green. The Ford Lotus Cortina was the first performance Ford; the company’s debut homologation special. Walter Hayes, the head of Ford Public Affairs, got together with Colin Chapman to create a car that could challenge the all-conquering Jaguar 3.8s. Based on the Cortina GT, the vehicle featured light alloy body panels, Lotus’s 105 bhp twin-cam engine and the close-ratio gearbox from the Elan. The rear suspension was also completely revised. Externally, 5.5 inch steel wheels, a new fascia, Lotus badges and the livery of Ford white with flashes of Lotus green completed the picture. The car was homologated in 1963, and immediately started racking up successes both on track and stage. In the hands of drivers like Jim Clark and Sir John Whitmore, the car became a legend.
