Forces of Valor Sherman M4E8 (105) Tank w. Wading Gear - 711th Tank Battalion - Okinawa 1945 1:32 Product Information
Forces Of Valor 1:32 diecast model of the Sherman M4E8 (105) tank as used by the 711th Tank Battalion at Okinawa in 1945. The M4 (105) came about due to the need for an Infantry Support vehicle armed with a heavier gun than the Sherman's usual 75mm main armament, and something that offered better crew protection and manoeuvrability than standard towed Artillery or Self Propelled Guns. Consequently Chrysler produced 1,641 M4 tanks fitted with the 105mm Howitzer Gun. These saw action in Europe, the Mediterranean and the Pacific. This particular M4E8 (105) saw action at the Japanese island of Okinawa in 1945. As the landing craft could not directly approach the shore, the Shermans on this operation were fitted with special wading kits that covered the tank's engine deck and exhausts, effectively raising the air intakes for amphibious use. These modified wading Shermans could then be deployed a close distance to the shore, whereupon landing the crew could remove the trunking, although sometimes it was left in place. This 711th Tank Battalion military vehicle sustained shrapnel damage to its barrel at Okinawa, but it was subsequently repaired. Measures 20cm in length. Display base included.
