AUTOart Porsche 911 (930) Turbo 3.0 - Silver Metallic 1:18 model car Product Information
AUTOart 1:18 diecast composite model of the Porsche 911 (930) Turbo 3.0 in silver metallic. For many the Porsche 911 Turbo, more correctly the 930, was the first supercar. It was the poster of this car that a whole generation of pimply teenagers had up on their bedroom wall. While the original purpose for building the Turbo was to homologate it for racing for the 1976 season, it very quickly became clear that it was proving popular with roadgoing enthusiasts. Early cars came with a 3.0 litre engine. The car developed 256 bhp; far more than the normally aspirated version. Early cars had a four-speed box, but the car's most distinguishing feature was its 'whale tail' spoiler to vent more air and create more downforce. Whilst wider arches and larger tyres increased the car's grip. Porsche introduced the car at the Paris Auto Show in October 1974, before putting it on sale earlier the next year. The 930 was very fast, reaching 60 mph in around 5.2 seconds, although later variants proved to be faster still. But the 911 Turbo proved demanding to drive. The delayed impact of the turbo could induce a lot of understeer that was often very sudden and delayed. It caught a lot of people out, and earned the car the 'widow maker' epithet. For 1978 the displacement was increased to 3.3 litres. This increased the power to 296 bhp. At that time a whole range of changes were made to the car that much changed its handling characteristics. Porsche discontinued the 930 after the 1989 model year, when its underlying 'G-series' platform was being replaced by the 964.
